Mobile Journalism (MoJo)

Everywhere you look, MoJo is making its mark. Increasingly, journalism schools across Europe are including it in their programs, and it’s quickly becoming a core reporting skill. This training will help you transform everyday mobile recording into compelling, professional stories.

What is this module about?

Mobile Journalism training focuses on mastering the main skills of mobile-first reporting, bridging traditional journalistic storytelling with new digital platforms. This module combines technical skills and editorial insight, covering everything from capturing footage and recording sound to editing and publishing across platforms. Participants explore film language basics (framing, sequencing and composition), technical quality (sound, light, stability), and platform-specific formats (vertical vs. horizontal).

Who is this training for?

This training is designed for journalists and multimedia creators working in the field, as well as anyone interested in mastering mobile-first storytelling. It is best suited for participants who already have a basic understanding of mobile production (recording and editing) and general audio-video production principles.

Language

This training can be delivered in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia, in English or in any of the local languages.

Format approach

Learn by doing! This hands-on module encourages experimentation and creativity, guiding participants to produce at least one short filmed and edited piece by the end of the session. Through experiential learning, peer feedback, and collaborative problem-solving, participants build practical skills while discovering new ways to tell stories.

  • Use smartphones effectively for filming, sound recording, and editing.
  • Apply basic principles of film language (framing, sequencing).
  • Adapt story formats for multiple platforms (e.g., Instagram, TikTok, X)
  • Implement MoJo workflows in the course of field reporting.
